Knowledge is power.
It is certainly the best tool to break through the barriers of discrimination (sometimes self imposed).
One such barrier in the Hispanic community is people with disabilities. Instead of keeping it "entre la familia" or say "pobrecito es enfermo"; it is imperative for the Hispanic community to learn that there are resources and experts ready and willing to help them, educate them that a disability does not have to mean an inability to do something about it.
With that in mind YAI Network is hosting it's sixth annual Latino Health Care Conference at the CUNY Graduate Center this Wednesday. Nearly 400 people are expected to attend and what they will walk away with is hopefully - the first step towards helping their loved ones with disability live full lives.
